Not Every Barrier is Yours to Break

On boundaries, limitations, discernment and knowing what is yours to carry.

How is your energetic body lately?

There has been quite a shift over the last few weeks. I have felt exhausted, sad, frustrated, and completely in awe of everything around me.

It is a strange place to be, so aware of both dark and light.

How are you digesting all of this energy?

This space and time we are in has me pondering the idea of limitation.

Limitation gives us boundaries. Limitation also gives us barriers.

Are they the same? Different?

Enter perspective.

As humans, we like systems in which to operate. They can make us feel safe. They give us structure and a pathway forward. They give us something to hold onto.

Yet as energetic beings, those same systems can become limiting. What once provided safety can eventually become the very thing that keeps us stuck.

I am finding safety in both the dark and the light. It feels as though I have come into a balance I have never experienced before.

Maybe it is because life has delivered some blows lately. Maybe it is maturity or the work that I have done to recognize that the dark does not extinquish the light. Maybe it is that I do what I can to live in the light, simply recognizing and allowing myself to be in the dark when necessary.

Maybe I am simply seeing things differently.

Maybe I am realizing that I can exist in both dark and light while living a beautiful life, chaos and all.

All I know is this:

The barriers are informing the boundaries.

With tonight’s New Moon in Virgo, we are met with a grounded earth energy. An invitation to plant seeds and harvest. An invitation to notice what is working, what is not, what belongs and what no longer needs our attention.

Nature knows this. Why is it so hard for us to know this?

There comes a time when we must cut away in order to harvest. We must uproot in order to receive the sweet fruits of our labor. We must know what to tend, what to gather and what to return to the earth.

Perhaps, we are being asked to do the same.

If I could translate this into one guiding statement and question, it would be:

My boundaries are informed by what I no longer need to push through.

What barrier am I trying to break through that may actually be showing me where a boundary belongs?

Here is how I answer this.

Others’ limitations are not my barriers to break through.

I can hold space for them.

I can love them as they are.

I can honor where they are.

And, I will not embody those limitations as my own.

Some barriers are not ours to break. Not every obstacle is ours to overcome. Sometimes the work is simply recognizing where they end and where we begin. We don’t need to push harder. We need to recognize what is ours to carry.

And, what is not.
