A Reflection, Ten Years

You are a thread in my life.

I am grateful for every stitch you have sewn here. You have helped me create a quilt of comfort for myself and for others. You have challenged me when the stitches needed some work. You have honored me when you handed the thread to someone else and invited them into this work.

Whether you have been one stitch or many, thank you. Thank you for receiving my work, my words and in some way, being a part of what I have created.

We are celebrating ten years.

I don’t actually know the exact date.

Was it when I welcomed my first client into my home? When I announced that I was leaving one chapter of my life and stepping into the healing arts? Was it when I walked into my first studio at Mint Salon Block? Or when The Dreamy Dragonfly became Sara Bird Nelson Healing Arts?

All of it happened within a relatively short period of time.

Ten years ago.

And these ten years have been nothing short of challenging and incredibly fulfilling.

I have cleared homes of discordant energy and helped people create spaces that feel like home again. I have supported pregnancies, new relationships and new beginnings. I have sat with people as they retired from careers, left relationships and stepped into entirely new seasons of their lives.

I have brainstormed with budding entrepreneurs, built websites and sat beside business owners who had no idea what their next step should be. I have taught Reiki and Feng Shui at the university level, from my home, on the road and at private retreats. I have worked with people near me in Maine and with people around the world.

I have witnessed people come home to themselves.

And I am proud.

I want to let that stand on its own for a moment.

I am proud.

Because none of these ten years have been easy.

There have been many times when I have felt as though I was walking uphill. I have questioned what I was doing. I have watched things I thought would work, not work. I have created offerings that filled and offerings that didn’t. I have had seasons of abundance and seasons when I wondered how I would keep going.

But I did.

I have learned how to pivot. How to release. How to reimagine. How to make it all real in a a sea of mystique and non believers.

Those are my superpowers.

Self belief has been harder.

For much of my life, I have carried a sense of lack. The quiet feeling that perhaps there isn’t enough, or I am not enough, or what I have created isn’t quite enough.

Ten years into this work, I am beginning to understand something differently.

Lack does not get to be the story of these ten years.

Because, when I look back, I don’t see lack.

I see hundreds of conversations, Home shifted. Energy cleared. People supported. Students attunted to Reiki. Ideas born. Tears released (you have seen them). Laughter. Connection. Community. People finding their own knowing again.

I see a body of work. Work hiding in folders on my computer. Work out in the wild of woo. Work that I created.

I see a business that has changed because I have changed.

And I see myself still here.

Maybe that is what these ten years is calling me to celebrate.

It is not all figured out. However, I kept listening. I kept learning. I kept showing up. I kept trusting this thread enough to see where it would lead next. To see what we would sew next.

And now, as I enter the next ten years, I am ready to follow it from a different place.

Not from lack. From knowing.

I know that presence changes things. Presence for ourselves. Presence with one another. Presence in the lives we are actually living.

Presence matters more than having the answer.

I know that energy eventually has to become action. Awareness is where we begin, but what we do with that awareness is how we change our lives.

I know that healing doesn’t mean never struggling again. It means meeting ourselves differently than we do.

And I know that my work is not about fixing people. It never has been.

It is about creating the space for people to hear themselves again. To remember themselves. To trust what they already know within.

I also know that success may look different in the next ten years than it did in the first.

I have changed.

You have changed.

And we will continue to change.

I don’t know what this quilt of ours will finally look like. Maybe we aren’t meant to know while we are still sewing together.

But I know you are part of it.

Every session. Every class. Every home. Every conversation. Every person who has read my words, shared my work, trusted me with a tender part of their life or quietly followed along.

You are woven into these ten years.

And as I being the next ten, I know something I didn’t fully know when I began.

I trust myself to let it take shape.

Stitch by stitch.

I will keep weaving presence, compassion and love into this work.

And we will see what we create together.
