The Autumn Equinox
Happy Autumn!
Across cultures and generations, autumn has been a season of harvest, gathering, gratitude, remembrance and preparation. Different traditions. Different histories. Yet there is a shared recognition that this turning of the season is a time to celebrate.
The Autumn Equinox reminds us of balance when light and dark are equal, if only for a moment.
Nature moves to its rhythm. Growth slows. Leaves change and release. Crops are harvested. Gardens and fields are put to bed.
This is what we see above the surface.
Below, even as the temps chill and the daylight fades, plants send their roots deeper, preparing and protecting themselves for the season ahead, ready to return in the Spring.
We follow a rhythm of our own. As our bodies adjust to cooler temps and fading light, we draw inward. Wisdom lies in the quieter moments of the season.
In Feng Shui, autumn is associated with the metal element carrying the essence of clarity, refinement, structure, discernment and boundaries.
Look around your home. Look within your heart.
Choose, with intention, what is worth carrying with you through the season and into the next.
I tend to look at energy within our home and our heart, both compasses towards presence.
The Home Compass
The Home Compass this season calls us to edit.
The refinement of the metal element supports us in the energy of decluttering and releasing. In that process, we recognize what nature has been telling us all along.
You don’t need to add more to feel abundant.
The abundance is revealed in the release.
Imagine moving into the Winter season with a home that is pulled together to your liking. A home that feels like you. A home that supports rest, dreaming and the quieter season ahead.
The Heart Compass
The Heart Compass this season calls us to harvest.
We are reminded that reaching for the next thing is balanced by recognition of what you have grown.
Can you see what you have harvested? Not only from this Summer, but across your lifetime.
What have you grown?
How have you grown?
Let’s celebrate that.
A Simple Autumn Practice
Take a few quiet moments each day to release what you have carried and honor what you have grown. Let it be a remembrance of your own being in the beautiful autumn light.
Light a candle. Watch the leaves fall. Breathe in the crisp air. Bite into a fresh apple.
And ask yourself:
“What am I grateful to have harvested?”
Then listen.
There is wisdom in what you have already grown.
